In our setting we made Books of Dad - small books the children made and put things like “if dad was a super hero what would he be”, and drew pictures. Also things that they liked about dad and stories he had told them. Some of the children put their favorite happy times in the book and wrote about them. These when finished were given to dads on Father’s Day by the children

The whole project was a fantastic opportunity for fathers and children to share stories, memories and happy times, where the children could use the resources to make a personal book for their fathers to keep.
Donna Cudmore-ray, Play Coordinator

The Books of Dad worked brilliantly as did encouraging fathers to read what the children had written together and enjoying happy times.

Some of the children couldn’t write or read, so we got them to do drawings and we wrote on the books for the child, who told us what their pictures represented.

This is the 1st fathers story week our setting has been involved with, however, we requently use books and reading as a bonding tool between children and their fathers in our setting which works well.

We encourage fathers in the setting to support their children where possible, and encourage play and activities at the table.
