Rainbow Early Years

Trowbridge

3

Our setting plans through child initiated ideas. The children were showing interest in the World Cup & sports. Therefore we asked a father figure in to do some football skills coaching. We also invited a father in on another day to do some rugby skills coaching. In addition to this we invited in a male librarian, through sharing information with the Partners in Literacy project.

The children really enjoyed the planned events, it enabled them to meet other people. Staff thought it was very successful. Hopefully this can be extended further next year to include other father figures from other professions.

Involving children in activities that interest them. We would like to invite more father figures in next year maybe for a bring-a-dad day? We are also holding an open morning on the 3rd July (for the first time) to enable fathers to attend the setting prior to their children starting the group in September 2010.

Being able to use the school field with the school children using it for P.E. & break time.

Story telling evenings where the headteacher shared a story to give out treasure boxes.
Being involved in outdoor play or attending outings out of the group.

From the onset (open morning) get fathers involved in their childrens learning. Plan specific activities experiences for Dads to attend, maybe a trip to a transport museum? Ask fathers through further consultation.
